Clouds

Amazon Web Services are a great way for small businesses to unload some complexities of project management. You can rest assured that AWS is a high quality collection of cloud services, as they are also used by many large corporations such as Netflix, Comcast, and PG&E. Examples of services used are, cloud storage, machine learning algorithms, and data analytics, along with many others.

Azure is a cloud computing service originally developed by microsoft. Most of the time, Azure is used by customers to build, deploy, and manage applications, on servers and data centers managed and owned by microsoft. Solutions used include Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS) and these are put into use on services such as virtual computing, analytics, networking, and storage.

Google cloud is a cloud computing platform most people use every day, sometimes without even thinking about it. Since its release in 2008, consumers have been using Google’s cloud services to compute and store data. Developers have been also using these services to build, test, and deploy applications. It has been made extremely simple to use for all customers, and it can be used anywhere with a wireless connection.

Rackspace is used for its cloud computing and managed hosting services. It is a very popularly used cloud computing and hosting company. Rackspace is known to want to save customers time, money and some of the many headaches of managing their own IT department by taking some of the weight and responsibilities commonly worried about day to day. Commonly used by other companies and businesses, they have made a distinguishing difference from individual aimed use such as those on Google cloud.

Databases

Firebase is a web platform that consumers use to create and develop web and mobile applications, purchased by Google in 2014. Firebase is a Background-as-a-Service or BaaS, and these are commonly used to connect mobile applications to backend services.

Oracle is a cloud computing platform with many services marketed towards companies. It has a high focus on small details and customization. Reportedly over 200 companies were using Oracle, and their Corporation managed data centers as of 2020. 

SQL Server is primarily used for storing data, requested by other applications. Which may run either on the same computer or on a different device across a network. SQL Server is what’s known as a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) developed by Microsoft. SQL Server also supports ANSI SQL, which is the standard Structure Query Language. As of 2020, over 900 companies were using SQL Server for their projects.

MY SQL is another Relational Database Management System, used for logging applications, data warehousing, and e commerce. Though MY SQL and SQL Server are very similar, SQL Server is owned by Microsoft and MY SQL is owned by Oracle.

CMS

DNN, or DotNetNuke, is an internet content management service, and a framework for application design originally based on Microsoft’s .NET. DNN was released in 2019.

Miva Merchant, or Miva, Inc. is a hosting company and ecommerce shopping software, privately owned and operated out of Florida since 1996. Miva Merchant is run and operates on it’s own proprietary scripting language, MIVA Script. 

Progress Sitefinity, or Sitefinity CMS is a Content Management System that customers use to store and manage content on their website. 54 worldwide companies have used Sitefinity since its inception, and they use it to this day.

Shopify is a Canadian e commerce company based out of Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2006, Shopify has been widely used, as over 820,000 merchants use the platform to this date. 

WordPress is a free, open source system, originally written in PHP. WordPress is a well sought after and used program, that is usually paired alongside such programs as MySQL and MariaDB. Released in 2003, the programming language WordPress is written in is PHP. WordPress is a publishing software the consumer can use to create a blog or a website. It may be the easiest blogging and CMS for beginners.

Languages

Angular is a platform for building applications using the HTML and TypeScript programming languages, though Angular was originally written in only TypeScript. Many large companies use Angular quite often, such as Microsoft, Apple, or UPS. Angular was first released in 2016, and is owned today by Google.

Flutter is a mobile app SDK that gives developers an easy way to build mobile applications on both Android and iOS. Flutter was developed and owned by Google, and it was released in 2017. Flutter was written in C, C++, and Dart.

.NET is a framework designed by Microsoft to allow for simple desktop and web application engineering. It’s a very popular free platform,  used for various different types of applications. .NET provides the programming environment for most software development phases, which explains why it is so widely used.

NodeJS is a platform that was originally built on JavaScript runtime. Many companies use this platform to build web applications easily and efficiently. Microsoft released NodeJS in 2009, and it will most likely only gain popularity as time goes on.

PERL is a programming language developed for text manipulation, originally. Now it is put to use for the completion of a wide variety of tasks, including system administration, and web development, to name a couple. Perl was first released in 1987, originally to be used alongside the operating system known as UNIX.

PHP is what’s known as a server side scripting language. It is used to develop websites or mobile applications. PHP is an acronym, and it stands for Hypertext Pre-Processor, but it originally used to stand for Personal Home Pages.
